We wait many months to enjoy the waters of Muskoka. A network of summer Sunday boating enthusiasts who plan to strike out each week for their weekly cruise is growing quickly. There are three big connected lakes to play with, but this group tends to gather on Lake Rosseau and then follow different routes as the mood strikes.
The big cruise, in support of the CNIB camp on Lake Joseph is set for July 10, with boats gathering at 9:00 am and taking off at 10:00 am for the cruise. No word yet on whether there might be more than one route or whether boats of different speeds will travel a different route as well.
The CNIB camp has been a Muskoka treasure for many decades, and it offers a unique service to those who face not only challenges with vision, but other sensory and developmental challenges. In the fast-moving world we live in and the exclusive access to Muskoka’s shore that many privileged cottagers enjoy, it is easy to be unaware that not everyone is as fortunate. Summer camps, especially like the CNIB camp, provide a specialized service and experience that is unmatched anywhere else.
Last summer, the big event in a COVID summer, was the National Vintage Boating day cruise. It was exciting to join in that celebration. I’m sure this event will have the same spirit, especially with its targeted social focus.
